Cold Calling for Social Security Numbers
My sales career started in the most unexpected way: cold calling businesses to validate if they were in the market for equipment financing—and somehow convincing people to give me their birth dates and Social Security numbers.
It was absurd. It was effective. And it taught me that sales is about process, not personality.

From there, I moved to a fertilizer startup selling to golf courses across New England. Built a strong client base before logistics challenges shut down our division.

That experience taught me something crucial: even great salespeople can't overcome broken systems.
THE TRANSFORMATION
Employee #3 to $5M ARR
In 2006, I joined Fresh Tilled Soil—a 3-person UX design agency—as employee #3.

Over the next 13 years, I wasn't just doing sales. I was building the entire revenue infrastructure:
